| In the Name of Allah, the Owner of Majesty and glory
The night before the battle was going to take place, Allah sent a
peaceful sleep to the Muslims to refresh them and give them strength.
It was Friday, March 17, 623, or the 17th of Ramadan in the 2nd year of
Hijrah.

Hubab ibn al Mundhir, a man of Khazraj, asked the Prophet (S) if
stopping at the first well and making camp was a divine order or just a
matter of opinion. When the prophet (S) said it was a matter of
opinion, he suggested to go to a well near to where the enemy camped
and to build a cistern so all the water would be theres to drink and
none for the enemy. Hubab's plan was then carried out.

| In the Name of Allah the Responder to Every Prayer
The Prophet (S) knew it was imperitive to reach the water wells before the
enemy so they set out immediately. It began to rain and this was a blessing for
the believers for it hardened the soft sands and make it easier for them to
plant their feet and advance. Also, it became a difficulty for the Quraysh
since the enemy had to climb a few slopes to reach the Muslims. | | |
| In the Name of Allah, the Provider, the Beneficient
When Abu Sufyan got news of the army set out to defend him, he called
them back for he was already safe. Furthermore, a man named Juhaym saw
in a dream that a man on a camel proclaimed the deaths of the notable
chiefs and when the man stabbed his camel in the chest, not a single
tent throughout camp was left without bloodshed. Abu Jahl dismissed
these events and encouraged the people to ride forth and stay three
days at Badr for he knew they would be triumphant and thereby all
tribes would be in awe of them from thereon out.

| In the Name of Allah, the Firm, the Maintainer
Two water carriers of the Quraysh army were captured near the well of
Badr and when they were questioned as to the whereabouts of the army,
they answered that the army was "beyond the hill" and from the
estimates of slaughtering 9-10 beasts a day, the Prophet (S) concluded
an army of 900-1000 people. He asked who the chiefs were and the men
responded with names like Abdu Shams and Abu Jahl. The Prophet (S)
responded to his people, "This Mecca has thrown unto you the best
morsels of her liver."
